How to take a screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy S5

Taking a Samsung Galaxy S5 screenshot, screen capture, print screen, snap shot or whatever else you call it is fairly easy and straight forward! If you know how to take screenshots on other Samsung Galaxy devices this is no different.

If you have no idea what a screenshot is, it is nothing more than a picture of your devices screen at some moment in time! You can take screenshots of your high scores in your favorite game, configuration settings you don’t want to lose or anything else you can think of.

There are two different ways you can take a screenshot with your Samsung Galaxy S5. You can either go with the Home and Power Button method or with the Hand Swipe.

Are you ready? I feel like I have said enough so lets get you taking some screenshots on your Samsung Galaxy S5!

Method 1 – Taking your Samsung Galaxy S5 Screenshot with the Home and Power Button

  • First locate the home and power button. (See screenshot below for clarification)
  • Now simply press and hold the home and power button simultaneously.
  • You should see a notification of some sort informing you that your screenshot has been taken. This can come in a variety of ways such as a camera shutter sound, a screen flash,  or a notification running across the to of your screen.

Method 2 – Taking your Samsung Galaxy S5 Screenshot with the Hand Swipe

  • First you need to enable the Capture Screen feature if you haven’t already. You can find this by navigating through the following steps.
    • Settings -> My Device -> Motions and gestures -> Palm Potion (Enable) -> Capture Screen (Enable)
    • Now with this enabled we can take our screenshot.
  •  Simply swipe your hand from either left to right, or right to left. Ensure that you don’t lift your hand, and it covers the entire screen from top to bottom as you swipe.
  • You should see a notification of some sort informing you that your screenshot has been taken. This can come in a variety of ways such as a camera shutter sound, a screen flash,  or a notification running across the to of your screen.

Accessing your new screenshot

Both methods save your screenshot in the same place, in this case the Gallery application. If you haven’t used or moved this application before it is most likely on your home screen. Press the home button to navigate back to your home screen and open it up. (If it isn’t there it might be on another page of applications)

Your screenshot will be the latest photo you have taken.

Additional support

If you are still having trouble taking a screenshot with your Samsung Galaxy S5 please prefer to some common problems/fixes below.

  • For method 1 ensure that you are pressing both the home and power button at the same time. Not a second or 2 later, it must be done simultaneously!
  • With method 2 you need to make sure that you are swiping completely across the screen, doing it half way typically won’t work.
  • Also with method 2 double check that you have enabled the capture screen settings correctly.
